The “Bury Your Gays” trope has shaped LGBTQ+ representation in film, television, and books for decades, often killing off queer characters or denying them happy endings. In this video, we explore the history of this harmful storytelling pattern, its roots in Hollywood censorship and the Hays Code, and how it reinforced the idea that queer love and happiness are destined to end in tragedy.
Learn how the Bury Your Gays trope influenced LGBTQ+ media representation, why diverse queer stories matter, and how LGBTQ+ creators are challenging outdated stereotypes by telling stories filled with love, joy, resilience, and hope.
